"Sitting is the new smoking". No doubt you have heard this statement before. It is intended to emphasize the damaging effects prolonged sitting has on ones health and the fact that more than ever, people are required to sit for long periods of time whether it be at work on a computer, driving or just from living a sedentary lifestyle. In my experience as a health professional for over 24 years, I would argue that this statement should in fact be expanded to include standing for long periods of time and lifting motions (both repeatedly and a single action). Combined, these three factors have been shown to have the potential to cause significant injury, pain and inability to work and function. As such, I present the following visual guide to proper sitting, standing and lifting.

Be smart. Be safe. Be healthy.
